ABOUT US

John and Erika Aylward's lifetime love of food, from the growing process to cooking it, led them to open the Boulevard Market in November of 2004. With a goal to provide a European inspired market in a historic downtown setting, Erika and John bought 102 East Chicago Boulevard, a beautiful building which has hosted a fashion retailer, pharmacy and soda fountain, and more since it was built in 1879. In fifteen years John and Erika's one business has grown to five distinct businesses: the Boulevard Market and Four Corners Creamery, Peppalo Chocolate, Black Pig Salame Co. and the Inn on Evans.

You'll still see them working everyday, sampling wines with you and offering up samples of the newest cheeses or chocolate creations. Take a look around at their beautiful historic building--they'd love to give you a tour!

WHAT WE VALUE

Affordable quality.

We carry some of the best products out there. Period. But, when it comes down to it, who really wants to spend $50 on a bottle of olive oil every week? We sure don't. When we decide what products to carry at the Boulevard Market, we strike a careful balance between quality and price. We know that price doesn't always reflect quality, and do lots of research (i.e., tasting) to make sure that you are getting the best possible product for your money!
The products we produce are as locally sourced as possible and our philosophy  has never changed: to create slow foods in tandem with locally and sustainably grown, raw ingredients that everyone can get their hands on and is approachable. It helps us to communicate the ripple effect it makes for other producers, farmers and the larger community.

Commitment to expertise.

We travel around the United States and Europe visiting creameries, artisan food producers, specialty food stores, restaurants, cafes...anything to do with food! We have turned our passion into a business and are devoted to learning everything we can about it and passing on that knowledge on to you.

Inspiring atmosphere

We want to inspire you to try a new food, learn about the folks producing it, whip up a new recipe, experience a different culture or enjoy the newest varietal of wine.  Our service is customer oriented, friendly, knowledgeable and never pretentious.  All of our team can walk you through the new, the old, the local and the unique!
